Porsolt offers a range of models that address complications specific to, or associated with, the urogenital system, including the assessment of renal function, bladder function, and the genital system.

Renal function

Diuresis and urinary electrolyte excretion in the rat: effects of furosemide

After overnight food deprivation, rats are administered with physiological saline (10 ml/kg p.o.) just before the test substance and immediately placed singly in metabolic cages. Urine is collected over a 6 hour period.

Hypertension models

• 5/6 nephrectomy

• Chronic DOCA-salt hypertension (low renin model)

• Chronic (2H1C) Goldblatt hypertension (high renin model)

     – diuresis, electrolytes, proteinuria…
     – glomerular filtration rate (creatinine clearance),
     – survival curve,
     – blood pressure and heart rate
     – target organs weight
     – histopathological evaluation (fibrosis,..)
