Brennan model of post-operative pain in the rat

A longitudinal incision of the skin, fascia and muscle of the plantar aspect of the rat hind paw is performed under anesthesia.

Tactile allodynia (using the electronic von Frey test), tactile hyperalgesia (using the pinchmeter test) and thermal hyperalgesia (using the plantar test) can be measured as early as 3 hours and up to 3-4 days afterwards.
